Changing technology could help limit credit fraud

Almost a third of U.S. consumers have been the victims of credit fraud in the past five years, according to one study. Consumer Reports' Andrea Rock says technology is largely to blame: European cards typically feature a computer chip, while account data in the U.S. "is stored, unencrypted, on a magnetic stripe on the back of each card."
