Don't count out single women when it comes to buying real estate. Home purchases made by single women are on the rise. 12 years ago, nearly 70 percent of home purchases were made by couples but that has now declined by 10 percent.

According to the National Association of Realtors home purchases made by single women rose from 14 percent in 1995 to 22 percent last year.
